Physical therapy helps injured and recovering patients achieve better mobility, heal, and manage their pain better. Not simply a rehabilitative tool, physical therapy services also strengthen, relax, and empower people to manage their health, prevent disease and injury, and remain independent.
Here’s what to expect when you visit the physical therapy experts at Watauga Orthopaedics.
Highly Trained Experts
Today’s physical therapists receive many years of education and internship–undergraduate, graduate, and beyond. In fact, many are now called Doctors of Physical Therapy because of their advanced credentials.
Physical therapists work in hospitals, stand-alone clinics, nursing homes, schools, hospice settings, and more. Accordingly, they have expertise in all aspects of musculoskeletal function and healing. At Watauga Orthopaedics, we are proud to feature highly experienced and compassionate physical therapists who are ready to improve your quality of life.
Customized Physical Therapy Plan
Your physical therapist will craft an individualized care plan to help you achieve better health and mobility, and meet the recovery goals important to your ability to accomplish daily tasks, play sports, do your job, manage pain, and more. The therapist will do this using information provided by your primary care physician and orthopedic specialist, as well as from an on-site functional capacity evaluation (FCE).
FCEs test a number of strength and mobility abilities, such as reaching, grasping, balancing, walking, squatting, and more. With this information, the physical therapist will garner real data that shows what areas of your body require active rehabilitation and support.
In the event of a work-related or sports injury, you and your physical therapist will determine when you can return to work or active play, and what modifications you may need to maximize success and avoid additional injury.
In-Clinic and At-Home Exercises
Expect to perform physical therapy exercises and stretches at the clinic under the supervision of your physical therapist on a weekly basis. You will also be given “homework” to accomplish between visits. All tasks will help you achieve short- and long-term goals to improve your functionality, independence, and confidence.
Open communication between a patient and their physical therapist, patience, persistence, and a willingness to adjust treatments all contribute to long-term success of any physical therapy plan of care.
